"Zawisza Czarny" Juliusza Słowackiego – dramat w rozsypce

2019

2020

A massive Polish presence in Italy, particularly during the 16th and 17th century, is the fact often referred to when the roots of Polish humanist culture is under discussion. Indeed, Poland has been the only state in Central and Eastern Europe which absorbed on a larger scale the ideals of the Renaissance. However, the assimilation of Italian culture was the case, as it seems, in just a certain number of students, particularly those who had contacts with the University of Padova and the culture which flourished in the Republic of Venice. The element that distinguished the Poles from the others was the idea of struggle, mainly spiritual struggle, in connection with the post-Tridentine cultu…

Poezja Zaolzia : szkic

2017

The sketch on poetry of Zaolzie is an attempt to analyze the leading authors in the region in the years 1920-2016. The period was divided into sub-periods: the interwar years - the period of creative activity of such poets as K. Berger, O. Zawisza, L. Kobiela and the debutants: A. Fierla, P. Kubisz, J. Ondrusz, G. Przeczek, J.S. Polaczek. In the year 1936, there was established the Section of Literature and Art at Macierz Szkolna [Polish Schools Organization], which aimed to formally protect Polish artistic activity in Zaolzie. This did not satisfy the expectations of young creators, though, and therefore a year later there was founded Śląski Związek Literacko-Artystyczny [Silesian Literary…

"Lato" Tadeusza Rittnera. "Ostatnie dni starej Europy" i nowoczesny teatr uczuć

2021

This is a reassessment of the work of Tadeusz Rittner, a bilingual Polish/German writer and dramatist from Galicia who won much acclaim in the early decades of the last century. This article examines his narrative and dramatic strategies by focusing on his drama Lato (Summer), published in 1913. It is a story about a timid young man who, after hearing from his doctor that he will not live much longer, turns suddenly into a bold and shameless seducer. This could be the stuff of a conventional, farcical exposure of middle class hypocrisy, yet in Rittner’s drama it becomes a fascinating study, never far from Czekhov and Witkacy, tapping all the resources of realism, irony and grotesque to show…

Władysław Stanisław Reymont i Maksym Gorki w perspektywie biograficznej

2016

This paper is an attempt to present the numerous analogies in Władysław Stanisław Reymont‘s and Maxim Gorky‘s outlook on life. It seems that the affinity is partially determined by the coincident biographies of both writers. In literary studies thematic parallels in the writers‘ prose works are frequently mentioned. The paper constitutes a continuation thereof, presenting the problems from a biographical perspective. The paper dedicated to the Polish-Russian literary relations at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries belongs to the area of comparative studies.

2019

The proposed topie concerns mainly social pedagogy and has already been discussed in Polish studies. The article concentrates mainly on the role model of a courageous woman, and to emphasize the characteristic meaning of fight, both the spiritual as well as armed, which is - according to the author of the text — a strong trend of interpreting national history and a characteristic element for edu- cation. It has led to the formation of a positive image of a woman-Christian heroine commemorated in next centuries.

Substrat jako fundament konwencjonalizacji wtórnej sielanki staropolskiej

2022

Obserwowane zmiany w obrębie konwencji zostały opracowane w odniesieniu do koncepcji substratu gatunko…

"Dżafar z Bagdadu" Janusza Makarczyka jako cenne źródło wiedzy o historii i literaturze arabskiej epoki Abbasydów

2018

This article deals with Janusz Makarczyk’s bestselling historical romance Jafar of Baghdad, first published in 1950. Makarczyk had a varied career as a journalist, travel writer of the ‘globtrotter school’, military officer, diplomat and academic; his deep involvement with the Middle East and Arab history began in the 1926 when he was sent to the Polish consulate in Jerusalem. The life of Jafar ibn Yahya provided him not only with enough material for a gripping story of love and romance but also a pretext for painting a broad canvas of historical events and personages. Addressed to younger readers, the book is didactic in the sense that it offers them basic information about Islam (e.g. the…
